A Sugar-Free Lent: A Time to Reset and Reflect

chelsea0385

Lent is traditionally a time of fasting, reflection, and spiritual renewal observed by many Christians, particularly in the Catholic faith. It represents the 40 days that Jesus spent fasting in the wilderness. Christians see it as period of sacrifice and preparation leading up to Easter.

While I am not Catholic, I have always found value in observing Lent as a personal season of self-discipline, reflection, and renewal. Each year, I choose something to eliminate or change—whether it’s stepping away from social media, committing to daily prayer and devotion, or giving up certain foods that don’t serve my body well.

This year, after a challenging year of health ups and downs, I feel the need for a hard reset. As we move into spring, I want to focus on cleansing my body, soul, and mind, and I’d love for my patients, friends, and followers to join me.

You don’t have to be religious—or even spiritual—to benefit from a season of intentional change and gratitude. Use this period to cultivate discipline, mindfulness, and reset your habits. It's an ideal opportunity for anyone aiming to rejuvenate both body and mind.

For the 2025 season of Lent (Wed, Mar 5 – Sat, Apr 19), I am committing to a sugar-free Lent—and I mean truly sugar-free. While I already eat mostly Paleo, avoiding gluten and processed sugar due to my own health, this will be a deeper reset. I am cutting out all added sweeteners, processed sugars, alcohol, and even natural sugars like honey and maple syrup. While I firmly believe in the health benefits of raw honey and pure maple syrup, I want to remove all forms of sweetness for this period and then mindfully reintroduce them.

Why Join Me?

Excess sugar—whether from processed foods or even "natural" sources—can disrupt our metabolism, energy levels, and even mental clarity. A sugar reset can help regulate blood sugar, reduce inflammation, and support gut and immune health. More than that, it’s a way to break habits and bring mindfulness to what we consume daily.

If you’re feeling sluggish, dealing with cravings, or simply looking for a way to challenge yourself, I invite you to join me! You can tailor this to your needs—maybe you cut out just processed sugar, or maybe you go all in and eliminate all sweeteners.

How We Can Support Each Other

I'll be sharing my experience, meals, struggles, and victories along the way. I’d love for you to interact with me—comment, send messages, and share your own journey. Whether you’re a patient or just part of this community, let’s encourage each other and see how a sugar-free Lent can transform our health and mindset.

If you’re in, follow me on social media. Let’s reset together!
